Bruxelles, Eurabia

Third Night of "Ramadan Rioting" in Bruxelles. According to The Brussels Journal, young muslims "threw stones at passing people and cars, windows of parked cars were smashed, bus shelters were demolished, cars were set ablaze, a youth club was arsoned and a shop was looted. Two molotov cocktails were thrown into St. Peter’s hospital". But there's nothing to worry about, Italian newspapers say: it's just a mini-revolt. UPDATE. Dave at Snapped Shots has a link to a video of the "mini-revolt" (when the the "big" one is here, call me: I'll flee to Utah).

Round-Up: The Brussels Journal, Snapped Shot, Atlas Shrugs, NewsBusters.org, Tammy Bruce, Security Watchtower, Hot Air, EU Referendum. UPDATE. Michelle Malkin, Little Green Footballs, As I Was Saying, Freedom Folks, Dust My Broom.

The Right Pope

"Can Islam be self-critical? Can its leaders condemn and marginalize its extremists, or are Muslims condemned to be held hostage to the passions of those who consider the murder of innocents to be pleasing to God? Can the West recover its commitment to reason and thus help support Islamic reformers? These are the large questions that Pope Benedict XVI has put on the world's agenda. Men and women of reason and goodwill should be very glad that he has done so". George Weigel, on the Los Angeles Times. On the same subject (more or less), also Jonah Goldberg on Townhall is a must-read.

Presidents and criminals

"Freedom, by its nature, cannot be imposed -- it must be chosen. From Beirut to Baghdad, people are making the choice for freedom. And the nations gathered in this chamber must make a choice, as well: Will we support the moderates and reformers who are working for change across the Middle East -- or will we yield the future to the terrorists and extremists? America has made its choice".

According to the Time, Bush's speech at the United Nations "was genius". "He was Presidential", writes James Carney, "expect another bump up in the polls". At the White House website you can read the full speech. In the meantime, Wizbang and Sister Toldjah, notice a lot of analogies between Ahmadinejad's words and Democrats' talking points. Chilling.

Round-Up: Hugh Hewitt, Townhall, The Corner (NRO), Gateway Pundit, Hyscience, The Political Pit Bull, Flopping Aces, Blue Crab Boulevard, Macsmind, Slate, A Blog For All, Hot Air, Atlas Shrugs, Captain's Quarters, Right Wing Nut House.

Rebound

Highest job approval of 2006 for George W. Bush (44%) according to the last Gallup poll for USA Today. And "likely voters" are evenly divided between Democratic and Republican candidates for Congress, 48%-48% (among "registered voters", Democrats had a 51%-42% advantage). "This has been the best two weeks Republicans have had since Bush was re-elected", the Republican strategist Scott Reed said. UPDATE. BrothersJudd writes that every time gasoline price drops 10 cents, Republicans gains 1% in polls. And gasoline price is tumbling down.

Round-Up: Townhall, Pollster, NewsBusters.org, Say Anything, Outside The Beltway, JasonPye, Crawfordslist, The Bullwinkle Blog, BrothersJudd Blog, The Moderate Voice, Common Sense, The Political Pit Bull, Blue Crab Boulevard, Ace of Spades HQ, TKS (NRO), The Caucus (NYT). North Right Wind

"Sweden's four-party opposition ousted Prime Minister Goeran Persson's Social Democrats after 12 years in power as voters backed their plans to cut taxes to make it easier for companies to hire and sell off state assets, exit polls indicated. The opposition, led by the Moderate Party's Fredrik Reinfeldt, 41, took 49.7 percent of the vote, compared with 45.6 percent for the Social Democrats and their allies, the Greens and the Left Party, an exit poll for state broadcaster SVT showed. A poll from commercial broadcaster TV4 showed the opposition ahead by 48.6 percent to 46.7 percent. (...) The largest opposition party, the Moderates, took 26.6 percent, according to the SVT exit poll, while the Liberals got 7.3 percent, the Center Party 8.2 percent and the Christian Democrats 7.6 percent. The exit poll gave the Social Democrats 34.3 percent of the vote, the Left 5.8 percent and the Greens 5.5 percent". (Bloomberg)
